Daylight Analysis

Access to daylight is vital for the health and wellbeing of human beings. Buildings therefore need to be designed such that minimum acceptable levels of daylight and sunlight are achieved. We use advanced simulation software to analyse daylight performance including the shading effects from surrounding buildings, enabling the optimisation of passive design strategies in relation to site location and orientation, whilst creating attractive healthy internal spaces.

The provision of good daylighting is rewarded by the certification schemes of BREEAM and Home Quality Mark (HQM). Our experience in the analysis and deep knowledge of these schemes and their specific requirements will help you achieve these “credits” and maximise your score and ratings.

The construction of new buildings can affect the level of daylight enjoyed by surrounding neighbours, and often planning policy will require this effect to be analysed and reported. Our experience in the use of daylighting models and the production of Daylight and Overshadowing reports in accordance with BRE guidance, will fully support your planning applications, identifying issues early on where changes can be incorporated into the design as necessary to minimise the proposed building impact.
